The small village of Argiroupolis is situated on a hillside south-west of Rethymon, between the Mousselas and Petres rivers. The village is located high on the hills, ten kilometres inland, providing spectacular views of the surrounding coastline.

The site of the village was once the hope of the ancient Greek city of Lapa, destroyed over a thousand years ago, but whose influence remains to this day. Sharp-eyed visitors will see both Roman and Venetian ruins incorporated into many of the village buildings.

Today the village is largely an agricultural community, home to natural springs and a number of taverna's making the village popular destination for those wishing to experience more traditional Cretian life.
